Last week I did a fantastic job sticking to my cash envelope system. I even had extra cash leftover that I put in my “squirrel funds” for upcoming expenses like Christmas, rental insurance, and clothing purchases.
Then on Sunday I made the mistake of window shopping. Which turned into the mistake of actual shopping. Guys. I have an Anthropologie problem. It was the summer tag sale! And these tank tops were so perfect for my upcoming vacation! And they were on sale! But of course…. at Anthropologie, on “sale” still means about $60.00 for two tank tops.
I’ve been thinking about it a lot, and here’s the thing: I’m not interested in returning these clothes. I actually don’t have a lot of summer clothes despite living in SoCal. And it’s so dang hot out. I’ve pretty much come to terms with my desperate justifications.
So what am I going to do about this hit to my budget? It’s not a huge hit, but every penny counts toward slaying my own personal Debt Monster (I’ve named him Sal Gambino). For the month of July, I’m going to eliminate my coffee shop budget. I usually allow myself $20.00 a week for coffee shop purchases because I don’t have an office to work from. Instead, I’ll be making cold brew coffee at home, and I’ll work from either libraries or the worksites I’m visiting. The main goal is to cut $60.00 of spending and stay indoors. For the air conditioning. Because, dang, it’s hot.
What are you favorite frugal ways to stay cool in the summer? And do you have a good iced coffee recipe for home?
